Star Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth defeated fourth seed Shi Yuqi of China to reach the Australia Open Superseries final in Sydney on Saturday. AP[/caption] The Guntur-born player took only 37 minutes to outplay China’s top-ranked male shuttler 21-10, 21-14 and continue his dream run in Superseries events. Right from the start, the 24-year-old Indian dominated the proceedings by winning long rallies as both the shuttlers stayed away from the net early on. The Indian banked on strong returns to lead 9-6 in the first game. Srikanth continued to move ahead after the break and reached game-point when the Chinaman faltered with a net-stroke. The Indian capitalised on Yuqi’s error with a flat smash which left his opponent stranded. In the second game, Yuqi took an early lead but Srikanth caught up at 2-2 and edged ahead with an onrushing return from the mid-court. The duo engaged in some tiring rallies where both tried to surprise each other with odd shots. But it was Srikanth’s brilliant net play which helped him to move to 7-6. Srikanth was in complete control of the second game, taking a 19-13 lead at one point. He finished the match with an unplayable cross court smash to enter his third successive Superseries final. The World No 11 joined Indonesia’s Sony Dwi Kuncoro, Malaysia’s Lee Chong Wei, the Chinese duo of Chen Long and Lin Dan to become only the fifth player in the world to contest three successive Superseries finals. Here are some of the congratulatory tweets:
