India maintained fourth spot in the 2023 Asian Games medal standings on Wednesday as their medal count surged to 81. Neeraj Chopra successfully defended his javelin throw gold with a throw of 88.88m, whereas Kishore Kumar  Jena won silver in javelin throw with a distance of 87.54m. The India men’s relay team comprising of Muhammad Anas, Muhammad Variyathodi, Rajesh and Amol Jacob won gold in the men’s 4x400m relay, while the women’s team of Vithya Ramraj, Aishwarya Mishra, Prachi and Subha Venkatesan won silver. Boxer Lovlina Borgohain clinched silver in the women’s 75kg category, following a 0-5 defeat to China’s Qian Lin in the final. Harmilan Bains and Avinash Sable also won silver in the women’s 800m and men’s 500m races respectively. India now have 18 gold, 31 silver and 32 bronze medals, and more medals will be on offer on Thursday. India take on China in the women’s hockey semi-finals, while the men’s kabaddi team are also in action. PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy will be in action the women’s and men’s singles quarterfinals, while the Satwik-Chirag duo take centre-stage in the men’s doubles quarterfinals.
