Asian Games 2023: India strike gold in men's and women's compound archery team events

The Indian men’s and women’s compound teams struck gold on Thursday in what was a superb day in the office for the country’s archery contingent at the Asian Games. The trios of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur and Ojas Deotale, Prathamesh Jawkar and Abhishek Verma however, registered contrasting wins in the women’s and men’s finals respectively. **Asian Games 2023, Day 12 in Hangzhou: As it happened** The women’s compound team edged Chinese Taipei by the thinnest of margins, securing the gold medal win by just one point with Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur shooting 60 out of 60 in the final round of a heart-stopping final. The compound men’s team of Ojas Deotale, Prathamesh Jawkar and Abhishek Verma, who are seeded second, followed the suit of the women’s trio to storm into the final with two lopsided wins. Veteran Verma dropped four points but that did not matter much as the young duo of Deotale and Jawkar were on a 10-hitting spree to down Bhutan 235-221 in the quarterfinals. Chinese Taipei were no match to the Indians who once again totalled 235, en route to the final. India also won gold in the squash mixed doubles event with Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu defeating Malaysia’s Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal 11-10, 11-10. India narrowly missed out on a second gold medal in squash on Day 12, with Saurav Ghoshal suffering a 11-9, 9-11, 5-11, 7-11 defeat against Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng.
