India women’s cricket team got their campaign at the 2023 Asian Games underway on Thursday. In a rain-affected match, that was washed out later, India beat Malaysia on account of a better ICC ranking. India were also involved in rowing and sailing events throughout the day. In men’s and women’s football, India had contrast results against Bangladesh and Chinese Taipei. The men’s team beat Bangladesh 1-0, with a Sunil Chhetri penalty, to keep their campaign alive. The women’s football team started well with an Anju Tamang goal but were eventually beaten 2-1 by Chinese Taipei. India’s table tennis contingent gets going on 22 September at the 19th Asian Games. India’s volleyball team, that stunned Korea in the opener, will be in action against Chinese Taipei. Elsewhere, there’s Mayank Vaibhav Chaphekar in Modern Pentathlon and Balraj Panwar in Men’s Single Sculls semi-final.
