Though yet to get underway officially with the opening ceremony set to take place on Saturday, 23 September, some of the events in the 19th Asian Games got underway on Tuesday with India involved in a couple of events. The Indian men’s football and volleyball teams got their Asian Games campaigns underway on Tuesday. They would, however, start off with contrasting results. The Indian men's football team were thrashed 5-1 by hosts China in their first appearance at the tournament in nine years. Despite the presence of Sunil Chhetri and Sandesh Jhingan, who were also part of the team in the 2014 Incheon Games, the Blue Tigers crumbled in the face of a clinical display from China. The Indian men’s volleyball team however, gave fans back home a reason to smile by pulling off a clinical 3-0 victory over Cambodia to collect the nation’s first victory at the Hangzhou Games. The Indians defeated the lower-ranked Cambodia 25-14, 25-13, 25-19 in their Pool C encounter to open their account on a successful note.
