India won their first gold medal of the 19th Asian Games on Monday when the trio of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil and Aishwary Pratap Singh bagged the top spot in the 10m Air Rifle Team event. With a score of 1893.7, they not only managed to win the yellow metal, but also set a world record. The previous world record stood at 1893.3, set by China, earlier in the year at Baku. The score also breaks the Asian Games record (1886.4 points) and Asian record (1887.4 points). South Korea (1890.1) and China (1888.2) took the silver and bronze medals respectively. The score in team events are decided on the combined scores of the country’s shooters in the qualification round of the individual events. Rudrankksh Patil (632.5 (104.8, 106.1, 103.8, 105.5, 106.7, 105.6)) and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (631.6 (104.1, 105.5, 105.3, 105.7, 105.7, 105.3)) clinched spots in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle Individual final. Rudrankksh finished third in the qualification round with Aishwary fifth. Divyansh (629.6 (104.8, 104.3, 104.6, 104.7, 106.3, 104.9)) finished eighth, and made the cut for the top-eight, but missed out as per the Asian Games rule of two shooters per country. India posted scores of 313.7, 315.9, 313.7, 315.9, 318.7 and 315.8 across the three shooters. This is India’s third medal in shooting at the 2023 Asian Games with Ramita Jindal winning bronze in 10m Air Rifle and women’s team won a silver medal in 10m Air Rifle Team event on Sunday.
