Asian Games 2023: India win gold in Men's 10m Air Pistol Team event

India won a gold medal in the Men’s 10m Air Pistol team event at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Thursday. This was India’s 13th medal in shooting and second of the day after Roshibina Devi Naorem won a silver medal in wushu . In a contest that turned out to be incredibly close, Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal combined for a score of 1734 points, ahead of China’s 1733 points and Vietnam’s 1730 points. Sarabjot produced series scores of 95, 95, 97, 98, 97, 98; Cheema 97, 96, 97, 97, 96, 95 and Narwal 92, 96, 97, 99, 97, 95. Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema progressed to the individual final in the 10m Air Pistol with scores of 580 and 579 points respectively for a fifth and eighth place finish. With only the top-eight shooters qualifying, this too ran close. Cheema’s 579 points edged Iran’s Amir Joharikhour only by virtue of more inner 10s. The Indian shooter struck 19 inner 10s, the Iranian shooter had 13. Shiva Narwal missed out on qualifying for the final with a 14th place finish and a score of 576 points. In the final, Sarabjot and Arjun finished fourth and eighth respectively. Vietnam’s Pham Quang Huy won gold with a score of 240.5, while South Korea’s Lee Wonho (239.4) and Uzbekistan’s Vladimir Svechnikov (219.9) took the silver and bronze, respectively. Sarabjot, 21, finished fourth, scoring 199, while Arjun ended up eighth and last, exiting on the second elimination shot. A string of below par scores in the final denied ISSF World Cup Bhopal gold medallist Sarabjot. With Thursday’s success, Indian shooters have so far won four gold, four silver and five bronze medals. Mixed skeet team fails to qualify India finished seventh in the Skeet Mixed Team event which wasn’t enough for Anant Jeet Singh Naruka and Ganemat Sekhon to go through to the medal rounds. Their 138 points were two points short of Korea in seventh who squeezed into the bronze medal match. Naruka, who won a silver medal in individual skeet on Wednesday, ended with a score of 71 while Sekhon posted 67.
