Arsene Wenger says football racism shows problem in society

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says eradicating racism from football is an issue that society needs to address starting with childhood education.

The Frenchman added to the condemnation of a group of Chelsea fans who stopped a black man from boarding a Paris metro train on Tuesday and chanted: “We’re racist and that’s the way we like it.”

Wenger described the incident before a Champions League game as “pathetic and dreadful,” adding that it is “society’s problem.”

At Arsenal’s training ground on Friday, Wenger said that “more intelligent people than myself think about that and nobody has found a miraculous solution, it certainly starts from childhood education and an open-minded attitude.”

Chelsea has initially banned three people from its Stamford Bridge stadium as a result of an investigation into the incident.
