Duplantis stretches pole vault record to 6.25m: How the world record has progressed

Sergey Bubka (USSR) was the first man to reach the six-metre mark in the pole vault in July 1985 in Paris, the record has been broken 23 times since then including Armand Duplantis’ latest record.

Armand Duplantis is undisputed king of men's pole vault event in the world. Reuters

Sweden’s Armand Duplantis captured the pole vault gold on Monday with a world record effort of 6.25m. It was also the ninth time he bettered the world record. He first broke the world record in February 2020 and has since broken it eight more times.

Sergey Bubka (USSR) was the first man to reach the six-metre mark in the pole vault in July 1985 in Paris, the record has been broken 23 times since then including Duplantis’ latest record.
