Antony awards Rs 30 lakh to silver medallist Vijay Kumar

New Delhi: Defence Minister AK Antony on Friday presented a cash reward of Rs 30 lakh to Vijay Kumar, who won a silver medal in the 25-metre rapid fire pistol event at the London Olympics.


The minister, at a brief ceremony, congratulated Vijay Kumar who was Thursday promoted to the rank of Subedar Major in the Indian army.

The minister also lauded the armed forces for having scouted and nurtured talent in various sporting disciplines, and for providing coaching using state-of-the-art infrastructure.

The ceremony was attended by Air Chief Marshal NAK Browne and several other senior officers of the armed forces and the defence ministry.
