After Candidates win, Anand climbs to No.3 in world rankings

Viswanathan Anand’s unbeaten run at the Candidates 2014 Tournament has propelled him to No.3 in the FIDE rankings.

Viswanathan Anand’s unbeaten run at the Candidates 2014 Tournament has propelled him to No.3 in the FIDE rankings. At the start of the tournament, Vishy was No.8 in the world and sinking with every new tournament but his wonderful display not only arrested the slide but also helped him charge up the rankings. Reuters[/caption] He began the tournament with 2770 ELO points but gained 15 ELO points to jump over Kramnik, who has 2783 points. Magnus Carlsen still has a big lead and comfortably sits at the top of world rankings with 2881 ELO points. Levon Aronian’s not-so-great showing saw him lose 18 points and drop to 2812 ELO points but he still retained the second rank. In other good news for India, P Harikrishna has climbed to No.25 in the rankings. He was previously ranked 33 and now has 2726 ELO points. In the women’s rankings, Judith Polgar continues to occupy the top slot with India’s Koneru Humpy at third. Top 10 in the men’s chess rankings 1. Carlsen, Magnus; 2881 ELO points 2.
