Why the AI Impact Summit matters geopolitically
The AI Impact Summit in New Delhi highlighted the deepening intersection between artificial intelligence governance, geopolitical rivalry and Global South aspirations. Held amid global turbulence and intensifying US–China strategic competition, the summit marked the first time such a forum convened in a Global South nation. With participation from 118 countries, it underscored India’s ambition to shape an inclusive, ethical and sovereign AI framework. The Delhi Declaration emphasised international cooperation, human capital development and trusted AI systems. While non-binding, it carries political weight. The summit revealed both opportunities for collaboration and risks arising from great-power competition in shaping the future AI order.
