How US-Saudi strategic convergence opens opportunities for India
The emerging US–Saudi re-alignment marks a significant reshaping of Gulf geopolitics, with Washington granting Riyadh Major Non-NATO Ally (MNNA) status and discussing potential F-35 transfers. For Saudi Arabia, this enhances regime security, modernizes its military, and positions it as a key regional anchor. For the US, it signals renewed engagement in West Asia and counters Iranian influence. India stands to benefit from a more stable, globally integrated Saudi Arabia through energy security, trade, and technology partnerships. While mindful of Saudi–Pakistan dynamics, India need not choose sides but can focus on advancing its strategic and economic interests in the region.
