'US has a lot to lose': France minister warns Trump’s Greenland tariffs could backfire
French Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard warned that US tariffs on eight European nations over the Greenland dispute could harm American farmers and industries as much as Europe. Trump imposed a 10 percent tariff on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland, rising to 25 percent in 2026, until a deal for the purchase of Greenland is reached. EU diplomats held an emergency meeting in Brussels, urging caution and restraint, while Genevard called any attempt by the US to purchase Greenland "unacceptable."
