Beyond a ceremonial first, President Murmu’s Angola visit rejuvenates India’s Africa outreach
President Droupadi Murmu’s historic visit to Angola from November 8–11, 2025, marked the first-ever by an Indian president, symbolising a new phase in India–Africa relations. Coinciding with Angola’s 50th independence anniversary and 40 years of diplomatic ties, the visit deepened cooperation in energy, trade, defence, education, and climate initiatives. Angola’s participation in India-led global alliances and its role as African Union Chair underline its strategic significance for India’s Africa policy. As both nations prepare for the next India–Africa Forum Summit, the visit reinforced shared goals of sustainable development, South–South cooperation, and a stronger, balanced global partnership for the future.
