Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, Centre clears another power project on Chenab: Report

The environment ministry has approved the 260 MW Dulhasti State-II hydropower project on the Chenab river in J&K, following the Indus Waters Treaty being placed in abeyance. The project will divert water from the existing Dulhasti State-I plant and require land from two villages in Kishtwar. India paused its Indus Waters Treaty obligations after a 2025 terror attack, halting data sharing and commission meetings with Pakistan.
