Dear ‘Economist’, India's stability is not accidental, but a model of economic governance
India’s “peculiar stability” stems from a multidimensional model of governance under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, not from transient economic trends. Stability is built across five interlocking dimensions: internal security, macroeconomic prudence, welfare precision through the JAM Trinity and digital infrastructure, institutional reform via GST, IBC, and infrastructure projects, and pragmatic foreign policy emphasizing strategic autonomy. Strengthened internal security, fiscal discipline, efficient welfare delivery, improved bureaucratic capacity, and resilient international relations collectively produce a coherent political economy framework. This integrated approach demonstrates that India’s stability is deliberately constructed, combining centralised authority with administrative efficiency, developmental reform, and strategic global engagement.
