In a first, Indian named chair of UN body on disarmament

Senior Indian diplomat DB Venkatesh Varma has been nominated to chair the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters for 2026–27, the first Indian to hold this position. The board advises on arms limitation and disarmament issues and was established in 1978.
