Belém climate summit must shift from promises to purposeful action
COP30, held in Belém, Brazil, from November 10–21, 2025, focuses on “Delivering on the Paris Promise,” emphasizing a shift from climate promises to purposeful action. The summit highlights mitigation, adaptation, climate finance, renewable energy, biodiversity preservation, and social justice, particularly for developing nations. Framed as the “implementation COP,” it promotes collective mobilization (“Global Mutirão”) among governments, civil society, and the private sector. COP30 builds on milestones from the Kyoto Protocol to the Paris Agreement, aiming to accelerate Nationally Determined Contributions, strengthen resilience, and advance clean technologies. Key challenges include funding gaps, equitable implementation, and translating commitments into tangible climate action outcomes.
