
520 lives saved, 367 vessels escorted: At UN, India highlights Navy’s role in tackling piracy, securing sea lanes
India’s Permanent Representative Parvathaneni Harish highlighted the Indian Navy's role in safeguarding global sea routes at a UN Security Council session. The Indian Navy has deployed over 35 ships, conducted 1000+ boarding operations, and responded to 35+ incidents in the Western Arabian Sea over the past two years. The Indian Navy's actions have saved over 520 lives and safely escorted 367 merchant vessels carrying 14.7 million metric tonnes of cargo since November 2023.
