Will wait for results before talking of alliances: Akhilesh Yadav

Akhilesh Yadav, in a jubilant mood after initial results indicated the Samajwadi Party would be the dominant party in Uttar Pradesh, said they would decide on possible alliances after the complete results were out. “The party will meet and decide on possible alliances after complete results are out,”  Yadav told CNN-IBN soon after it became clear that the SP was leading in a majority of the seats. However, he dispelled any doubts that he might be made Chief Minister. “The party wants Netaji (Mulayam Singh) to be Chief Minister,” Yadav said, adding that there was no question of him becoming Chief Minister. At the same time, he said he doubted that the Congress, which heads the UPA alliance at the Centre would impose President’s Rule in the state in the event of a hung assembly. “I  doubt they will go for President’s Rule…but if that happens, we’ll certainly oppose it,” he said. He also steered clear of questions as to what advice he had for Rahul Gandhi who spearheaded the Congress campaign. While refusing to comment on the rule of BSP supremo Mayawati, he said the money spent on parks and memorials could have been better spent on development of the state. SP is leading in 196 seats in Uttar Pradesh but is still short of the majority magic figure to form the government in the 403-member House. The party needs a figure of 202 seats in the House to form the government. with inputs from PTI
