Will the real PM Modi please stand up? Meet lookalike 'Nandan Modi'

New Delhi: With Prime Minister Narendra Modi having to focus exclusively on visiting US President Barack Obama over the past couple of days, there was someone else who tried to make sure that poll-bound Delhi didn’t feel ignored. And that was the Prime Minister’s lookalike Abhinandan Pathak (52). Pathak has hit the streets out of his own volition to campaign for the BJP and make sure the party emerges victorious in the Assembly elections that will be held in the national capital on 7 February. Pathak, a resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, came to Delhi cycling over 170 kilometres. “Modiji is like my elder brother and I want to work as his servant. That’s why I have to Delhi, to support him. Since he cannot spare time because of the US President’s visit, it is my duty to interact with people and convince them to vote in favour of the BJP,” Pathak told Firstpost. He not only looks like Modi, his way of talking, body language and gestures also resemble the Prime Minister’s. [caption id=“attachment_2067497” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Abhinandan Pathak. Reuters.[/caption] Pathak claims that he will be campaigning in all the 70 constituencies in Delhi ahead of the polls. “I figured that everyone wants Modiji to campaign in their area, a desire the Prime Minister cannot fulfill because of his busy schedule. As his staunch supporter, I will represent him and remind them of his presence. I will cycle to each constituency and have started doing it from last week.  Most of the people I have met support BJP here,” he declares. Terming Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal a “liar” and vowing to “expose” him, he said, “He (Kejriwal) is a liar and misleading the people of the city. I will expose all his hollow claims.” “Delhi’s poll is a test of Modi’s charisma and I won’t let him down at any cost. After all, Kiran Bedi’s candidature has the approval of Mr Modi. It is my duty to campaign for her.” Pathak, who is a physical education teacher in his hometown, has trimmed grey beard and wears the much talked about half sleeve Modi kurta and Nehru jacket. He admits that his resemblance to Modi is his USP and it helps him convince people about the BJP. “Wherever I go, people surround me and start asking for autographs and selfies. No doubt, my appearance makes people listen me,” he said. Pathak has a keen understanding of politics and had founded the Manavtawadi Party in 2012, which he later merged with the BJP in 2013. Instead of his real name (Nandan Pathak), he loves to be called as ‘Nandan Modi’. However, he gets upset when people call him “duplicate Modi”. “It pains me when people says that I am a duplicate of PM Modi. I love to be called as ‘Nandan Modi’. Even my family members call me that,” he added. Pathak had campaigned for Modi in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and Vadodara (Gujarat) in the 2014 general elections as well.
