Jayant, who has been campaigning in Gandhinagar at every election since 1991, told the paper he wants to step into his father's big shoes. He, along with younger sister Pratibha, have been the face of the senior Advani's campaign even during elections when the latter was busy on the election trail for BJP candidates across the country.

Despite the strained relations between his father and the party's prime ministerial candidate, he said, "I am very fond of him and share a close association with him. I have known him since I was a child."

Earlier, in an interview to PTI, he had said the country should not segregate the BJP and Modi. "Both are the same," he has said.

Jayant is also vociferous while talking about the BJP coming to power.

Growing up in a political household seems to have moulded the businessman-turned- aspiring politician. "I  got to meet and interact with a lot of people," he said, according to the report, in which he also spoke of his experience of Emergency and narrated how his mother overcame various challenges to run the household when his father was in jail.

The junior Advani puts his faith in the people. "I think it's a healthy sign in a democracy that a voter knows what kind of a government and leadership he/she wants," he said.
