Will form govt in Telangana without support says TRS chief

Hyderabad: Dismissing speculation of Telangana throwing up a fractured verdict, TRS today asserted it would form government with a decisive majority without anybody’s support on the back of “strong undercurrent and silent wave”. “We are likely to form government with a decisive majority without anybody’s support,” party leader and MLA KT Rama Rao, son of TRS supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao, told PTI. Agencies.[/caption] On some reports that suggested Telangana, which would come into being as a new state on 2 June, would see a hung Assembly, KTR sought to brush them aside and said TRS’ own feedback from intelligence and media sources was that it would be in a position to form government on its own without needing anybody’s support. He said a strong undercurrent and silent wave has worked in his party’s favour. Asked if TRS would join hands with Congress post-poll if it fails to get majority, KTR said he does not foresee such a situation. TRS fought in all 119 Assembly and 17 Lok Sabha constituencies in Telangana on its own, while Congress had an alliance with the CPI. On Congress’ allegation that TRS never intended to merge with Congress despite statements to that effect in the past, KTR said even if one assumed it to be true, there is nothing wrong with it. TRS decided not to merge with Congress after consulting party leaders and various sections of the society, adding, the move would be proved right when the election results come out, with “people ratifying it”. If Congress thought that its political fortune has been affected with TRS not merging with it, KTR said he can’t help it. On the bitter and nasty campaign witnessed with TRS and Congress engaged in vitriolic attack against each other in Telangana, he said it was Congress which made it personal though campaigning should have been based on issues. “We gave them back on the same coin,” he said.
