Dinesh Trivedi is the current Minister for Railways in the Cabinet was born on 4 June 1950. He represents the All India Trinamool Congress and is presently a Member of the Parliament of India, in the Lok Sabha, from the Barrakpore Constituency
Trivedi joined the Congress party in the 1980s, but switched over to the Janata Dal in 1990. Later, in 1998 he joined Mamata Banerjee when she started the Trinamool Congress party and became its first general secretary.

After completing his B.Com from St Xavier's College, Calcutta, he went abroad to pursue his MBA from the University of Texas, USA.
After his MBA in 1974, he worked in Chicago for two years for the Detex Company, before returning to India, where he worked for a logistics provider Lee and Muirhead. In 1984, he quit the job to start his own air freight company based in Kolkata.
Trivedi is married to Minal, who holds a PhD in genetics. They have a son Parthsarathi, who is pursuing aerospace engineering from Purdue University.
He has been very active in social and cultural activities and was the President, International Students Association, University of Texas.
He is very fond of sports like Golf, Cricket, swimming, horse riding etc.
