Chances are that Shah Rukh Khan just might skip voting this election. The actor, along with a multitude of names from B-Town, is expected to be at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2014 to be held between April 23 to April 26 at Tampa Bay, Florida. But April 24 happens to be Election Day in Mumbai.
Although Khan isn’t hosting the awards or has been announced as performing at the ceremony, he has six nominations, making chances of his presence at Tampa Bay fairly high.
As it turns out, King Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders will be facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore in UAE, on the same day. So will SRK be in Sharjah cheering his team on to victory, instead?
While Khan’s presence for the election is still a grey area, it is certain that a lot of Bollywood’s top names are going with the IIFA Awards during the elections.
Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor are going to host the awards, while the latter is even slated to perform at the ceremony. Akhtar’s Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has 10 nominations at the Awards, too.
Hrithik Roshan was in the news for IIFA too. Apart from his nomination as Best Actor for Krishh 3, he is also going to perform live for the audience. Priyanka Chopra, Madhuri Dixit-Nene, Kareena Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Malaika Arora Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Bipasha Basu are some of the other B-Town A-listers performing at the awards ceremony. Shiamak Davar is going to be choreographing the performances.
Deepika Padukone has three nominations for Best Performance in a Leading Role (Female), so it is anyone’s guess if she will be seen at the awards. Some of the other nominees are Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, Anupam Kher, Ranbir Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Rishi Kapoor, among many others.
Will any of these celebrities choose to cast their vote before heading to Tampa Bay? It seems highly unlikely, considering that at least the performing stars will be expected at the venue to catch up for rehearsals two days before the awards.
As for Shah Rukh, he has a tough decision to make. What will his priority be? Being responsible and casting his vote for the Lok Sabha elections or being a part the IIFA? Or will he give preference to watching his team battle it out at the IPL?
On April 24, we will know - and we will know if the other stars mentioned here voted, too.
