Just hours after Pakistan violated ceasefire on Monday yet again along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, Congress slammed the Modi government and said that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) did not know what was happening because PM Modi did not keep them in the loop. Reuters[/caption] “You (NDA) had a change of heart, what happened to PM’s 56-inch chest?” Congress leader Kapil Sibal said in a press conference on Monday. “Our country’s protectors are being killed by the Pakistan Army. Mr Modi, what are you doing?” Sibal said. Sibal also quoted PM Modi as saying on 11 August, 2013, “Our country’s protectors were killed by the Pakistan army and what was done?” He added that the PM, earlier on 8 May, 2014, had said, “Is it possible to have discussions amidst bomb blasts and gun shots?” The Congress leader then slammed PM Modi and said, “Mr Modi, why are you having discussions amidst bomb blasts and gun shots? Kya ye bhi jumla tha election jeetne ka? (Was this also an empty promise to win the election?” Sibal said that there have been 800 ceasefire violations along the border in the past one year. “We don’t know what the policy is with Pakistan, Ufa has become oof,” Sibal said. “We love them, we love them not. They love us, they love us not…It is completely confused.” Monday’s ceasefire violation was the seventh incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops since 15 July. One person has been killed and 16 have been injured so far in the firing from across the border, reported PTI. In July, there have been 11 ceasefire violations by the Pakistan army. On Saturday last, five civilians were injured when Pakistani troops targeted several Indian positions in Naushera sector of Rajouri district and the two villages in Poonch sector. Congress on Saturday had also said that the Modi government’s Pakistan policy had become an “international joke”. “The Prime Minister must spell out clearly what India has achieved by this so-called joint statement with Pakistan at Ufa… Pakistan has continued to backstab us in the last 15 months,” Congress spokesperson RPN Singh had told reporters. “There have been more than 800 ceasefire violations. At least a dozen soldiers have lost their lives and 18 civilians have been killed since the time BJP came to power, but Modi has ignored all these sacrifices in order to register his so-called victory in the context of Pakistan policy,” he had said. On Friday, the Congress had said that the “so called joint statement” issued India and Pakistan in Ufa was “not a breakthrough”. “Modi, before becoming PM, used to hear the ammunition from Pakistan side, but he is not hearing it now,” Congress leader and former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid had said.
