Describing Arvind Kejriwal’s actions during today’s Assembly session a “drama”, Congress leader Haroon Yusuf said he was disappointed that the Aam Aadmi Party chief had chosen to play “martyr” over the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill.
Yusuf was speaking to reporters after the Assembly had been adjourned, shortly before Kejriwal had announced his resignation from the Aam Admi Party office.
“We have always said that we will support a strong anti-corruption bill. But despite the L-G’s message that introduction of the Delhi Jan Lokpal bill would be unconstitutional, the bill was introduced and a vote on leave of the House sought,” said Yusuf.
Earlier in the Assembly, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Congress MLA and Delhi Congress chief, had said that the Congress was ready to support the Delhi Jan Lokpal Bill if it was introduced as per rules.
Speaking in the Assembly after the introduction of the Jan Lokpal Bill had been defeated after the BJP and Congress voted against it, Lovely said, “We are ideologically opposed to the BJP. But to save the Constitution we are willing to join hands with anyone.”
Yusuf told reporters that the Congress had proved today that they had no intention of withdrawing their support from AAP government by voting in favour of the Appropriations Bill and allowing its passage in the Assembly.
