Watch: 'You acted like a street thug', Sardesai tells Vijay Jolly

BJP MLA Vijay Jolly who has come under fire from all quarters for vandalising property belonging to former Tehelka Managing Editor Shoma Chaudhury remained unrepentant despite CNN-IBN anchor Rajdeep Sardesai telling him in no uncertain terms that he acted like a ‘street thug’. Jolly sought to justify his actions on the basis that “an anger was seething inside him” and in the face of all evidence, remained adamant that Shoma Chaudhury was a ‘co-accused’ in the case. When asked if he was ashamed for vandalising Chaudhury’s property, Jolly, said, “It is not a question of apologising. It is trying to get justice for the female journalist from Tehelka who was assaulted”. [caption id=“attachment_1255941” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] A screengrab from the interview. When asked who gave him the right to paint her nameplate in black, he said, “Yes, yes as a citizen I had the right. There was no violence or ruckus. It was spontaneous.” Sardesai, however remained adamant that Jolly’s actions were nothing more than a cheap attempt to gain some publicity before the Delhi elections. “It looks like you are attempting to sabotage the BJP campaign two days before the polls because you are angry that you didn’t get a ticket”. However nothing would induce Jolly to admit he was wrong. Attacking the intelligence level of CNN-IBN the unapologetic MLA said, “You cannot question the right of a citizen.” “I have not violated anyone’s space. I have no anger against Tejpal or Shoma. But I have the anger seething in me,” he added. When Rajdeep accused him of staging a drama, a very hassled Jolly’s only comeback was,“If you call my action a drama, then I would call your show a drama.” The war of words continued throughout the interview with the disgraced MLA absolutely refusing to budge, let alone apologise. “You are making a villain out of a non-issue,” Jolly said, adding, “Number one, I have not taken the law into the hand. I am taking the side of the ‘piddit’ girl.”
