This year, Discovery channel has a treat for its viewers– 19 hours of programming for Shark Week, which kicks off on 5 July. To ensure that the viewers are ready for the spectacular week, the channel has decided to give them a glimpse of what awaits them. The sneak-peak hosted by filmmaker Eli Roth will air the most riveting home videos submitted by fans who have had terrifying experiences with deadly sharks, reports
Time. One of those viral videos offers an important warning– shark proof cages are not always shark-proof. The video shows a shark aiming at a diver cage and trying to enter it and nearly attacking a diver. Explaining this, Tristan Guttridge, marine biologist says, “There are circumstances when the shark swims at the right angle that it just finds itself in the cage.” Elaborating on the risks of cage-diving with sharks, Dr Micheal Domeier, shark researcher says that when a shark gets its head in the cage, it’s going to get stuck and since sharks can’t swim backwards, it kicks its tail and get more stuck. This death roll by the sharks put divers at serious harm, he adds. Watch the video:
