Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi strangely went missing from the farewell dinner hosted for Manmohan Singh by Sonia Gandhi at 10, Janpath. While Congress turned out in full force, eyebrows arches and tongues were set wagging by Rahul’s absence. Eighty-one-year-old Manmohan Singh has served as the country’s Prime Minister for 10 years. Rahul’s absence from the function has caused Congress to go on the defensive with leader Kamal Nath saying that he was not aware of the reason. “I do not know why he did not attend,” he said. There have been speculations that Rahul is abroad and will be back once the counting for Lok Sabha polls begin on Friday, May 16. PTI[/caption] Congress leader Ajay Maken said, “After three months of grueling campaigning, Rahul ji is out of town for two days. (He) will be back tomorrow. Rahul ji had already met the honourable prime minister on May 10 to personally thank him for his services and contribution rendered to the nation.” While Congress might have been trying to defend Rahul, #RahulSkipsDinner was already trending on Twitter. Here are some of the best jokes from the social networking site. Our favourite is definitely the one with Last Supper version of what went on when Rahul was missing in action.
While Twitter might be having a gala time interpreting Rahul’s absence from the dinner, the Congress is now faced with a tough task of dealing with another controversy.
