Puducherry: An ’election anthem’ composed by a teacher of a government higher secondary school in Puducherry, was launched on Tuesday to create awareness among voters on a free, fair and peaceful polling for the 16 May assembly elections. While launching the anthem, election observer Prabhavati B Akashi also set in motion a signature campaign to raise awareness and was the first signatory on the specially erected board. AFP[/caption] She urged the people to “vote for a better Puducherry.” A team of students from a professional college sang the anthem during the programme, organised by the State Election Commission of Puducherry. The anthem in Tamil seeks to spread the message that a person’s vote is precious and sacrosanct. Composed by S Chitra, a teacher of government higher secondary school in Karaikal District, the anthem will be played at various centres, an official added. Election Officer P Jawahar and a host of officials were among those present.
