Vice-Presidential Election 2017: TRS vows to back Venkaiah Naidu after Narendra Modi seeks support

Hyderabad: The ruling TRS in Telangana would support the candidature of Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu for the vice-president's post, TRS member of Parliament B Vinod Kumar said on Monday.

"Chief minister (TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao) told us to support. He asked us to go and sign on the papers," Vinod Kumar told PTI when asked for the party's stance.

A release from the chief minister's office said Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Rao and sought his support for Naidu's candidature.

Modi telephoned Rao, informed him about the decision of Naidu's candidature and sought support, it said.

BJP President Amit Shah on Monday night announced Naidu's candidature for the vice-president's post after a meeting of the party's Parliamentary Board, BJP's highest decision making body.
