Chennai: The rebel AIADMK faction led by former chief minister O Panneerselvam on Monday extended support to NDA nominee M Venkaiah Naidu for the vice-presidential polls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called up Panneerselvam and sought support, a statement from AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) said.
“Panneerselvam informed the prime minister that the AIADMK (Puratchithalaivi Amma) will support Naidu” in the 5 August election, it said.
The faction, which has 12 MPs, earlier supported NDA’s Presidential nominee Ram Nath Kovind.
The faction led by Chief Minister K Palaniswami also supported the NDA candidate for the President.
