The Samajwadi Party family feud reached a crescendo on Sunday after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sacked his uncle and SP state president Shivpal Singh Yadav, party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav sacked Akhilesh loyalist Ram Gopal Yadav for conspiring with the BJP.

With the UP Assembly election just a few months away, the feuding factions met on Monday in a desperate attempt to smooth relations. While defending Shivpal, Mulayam Singh made it clear that Akhilesh would stay put as the Chief Minister.

Earlier, Akhilesh called his father his "guru" and said that he would never split the party. He also said that he was ready to quit if his father asked him — to end the turmoil within the party. The UP chief minister also alleged a conspiracy against him and said that Shivpal was part of it.

Meanwhile, Shivpal launched an attack on Akhilesh, accusing him of trying to form a new party or stitch an alliance with another party. Though the meeting ended with Akhilesh hugging his uncle, the drama is far from over.
