UP Minister accused of abducting CMO resigns on Mulayam's orders

UP State Minister of Revenue and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Singh alias Pandit Singh, who allegedly threatened and abducted the CMO of the Gonda district, today resigned from his ministerial post saying he was resigning on moral grounds. However, according to reports, the decision was motivated by a directive from Samajawadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, who had also taken an interest in the incident after the outcry over it. [caption id=“attachment_488316” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Mulayam Singh Yadav had taken strong cognisance of the matter: PTI[/caption] Singh was summoned by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav on Thursday and asked to explain his actions. The state government had also set up a high level committee to look into the incident. According to media reports, the CMO was allegedly abducted by Minister Vinod Singh alias Pandit Singh as he was “unhappy” over the refusal to accommodate his nominees on the list of doctors on contract recruited by the district health department under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The CMO in question has not filed a written complaint or FIR in regard to the incident. However, Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) JP Sharma said, “Though the CMO has not filed any written complaint in this regard, we are in touch with the local officials and employees to get details of the incident”.
