Union Ministers term Modi's Parl speech 'heart-touching'

New Delhi: Union ministers on Wednesday hailed as “heart touching” Narendra Modi’s speech in Parliament and said that the Prime Minister has the “will” to implement things he articulated on the floor of the House. “Speech was very heart-touching. He spoke not only as the country’s Prime Minister but also as somebody who nurtures it,” Home Minister Rajnath Singh said when asked about Modi’s reply to the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address in Parliament. Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said the Prime Minister’s speech was a “message” to all including MPs and members in the Council of Ministers. Asked how the government will covert the country’s image from “scam India” to “skills India”, he said, “Transparency, clarity in our thought, commitment in our action… all these will lead to a great future.” Former Union Minister and Congress leader M Veerappa Moily complimented Modi for quoting Mahatma Gandhi “abundantly in his speech” but said “that kind of action-oriented vision is still lacking” in him. “One thing he has to be complimented for quoting Mahatma Gandhi abundantly in his speech. That means to say there is a real transformation in the mindset of Modi… But that kind of action-oriented vision is still lacking. We are yet to see how he is going to implement…,” Moily said. A conciliatory Modi reached out to the Opposition urging it to join him in “collective decision-making” for development of the country and all sections of people, including Muslims. In his maiden address to the two Houses of Parliament, Modi, fresh from a massive mandate, promised not to work on the basis of numbers but “on the basis of collective decision-making”. PTI
