It has all the makings of an epic romance. Two soul mates who stick it out through thick and thin for decades suddenly have a falling out. The air is awash with cries of betrayal and hurt. Ties are severed and the collateral damage is immense. (And dramatic music is played)
And then suddenly, a realisation. Attempts are made at a reconciliation. The question is does the other party feel the same? Can things go back to the way they once were?
That’s the question people are pondering on Twitter after Sasikala issued a groveling apology to Jayalalithaa, disowning her entire family and saying she only wants to be a “true younger sister” to the Tamil Nadu CM. Though admittedly, not everyone is moved to tears at the tale. Bollywood celebrity Shobhaa De had quite a cutting tongue in cheek comment about it on her Twitter feed when she said, “True love triumphs in the end! Awww!Just like a mushy M and B novel.Sashikala and Jayalalitha ki amar prem kahani is most inspiring.”
Anti corruption activist and Janata Dal leader Subramanian Swamy too weighed in on the grand reconciliation: “At present Sasikala is trying. Let us see if JJ falls for it”
The general twittersphere is no less cutting. One user TS Sudhir tweeted, “#sasikala trying to get back with #jaya after severing ties with her relatives shows water is thicker than blood.” Venkat Ananth, responding to a news story that expressed Sasikala’s desire to ‘serve’ Jayalalithaa for the rest of her life responded with two words, “Dude. Serve?”
The most telling response to Sasikala’s groveling apology however came from a Twitter user called Name: “Soon Sasikala is going to disown herself…
