The definitive playlist: Celebrating Rahul Gandhi's Ghar Wapsi

The prodigal son has returned. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has come back home to New Delhi after a 56-day sabbatical. While we never truly felt his absence thanks to the political leaders and Twitterati, his return has reignited a media frenzy of sorts. Gandhi was reportedly welcomed back to his Tughlaq Street  residence by his mother Sonia Gandhi and a host of television cameras.

The definitive playlist: Celebrating Rahul Gandhis Ghar Wapsi

The return of Rahul comes ahead of the party's planned farmers' rally on the contentious Land Bill issue which he is likely to address. Rahul had left quietly before the Budget session began on February 23 but it is still not known where he had spent the days.

The 44-year-old leader arrived here at 11.15 AM on a Thai Airways plane from Bangkok, ending days of intense speculation over his return and amidst celebrations by party workers who burst crackers outside his residence.

The party had then said that he "requested Congress President Sonia Gandhi for some time to reflect on recent events and future course of the party".

Wearing a dark shirt and seated in the back seat of his vehicle, he arrived escorted by his security personnel and drove straight into the house without interacting with the waiting mediapersons.

While we may not be there to welcome him back, we can definitely celebrate his return in the typical Indian way – with songs. Presenting a list of songs (all in good humour) to celebrate the Ghar Wapsi of Rahul Gandhi:

1. Homeward bound by Simon and Garfunkel

This song is dedicated to his journey home from his not-so-top-secret destination, when the lyrics “Homeward bound I wish, Home, where my thought's escaping Home, where my music's playing” were sure to be playing in his mind.

2. Country Roads by John Denver

Wouldn’t John Denver singing “Country roads, take me home, To the place I belong” be the perfect tune for Rahul’s journey from the airport to his house?

3. Yeh Jo des hai tera from Swades

Mitti Ki Jo Khushboo, Tu Kaise Bhoolaayega, Tu Chaahe Kahin Jaaye, Tu Laut Ke Aayega” A R Rahman’s voice and music is enough to make any Indian overseas miss home, so Rahul baba can be no different right?

 4. Coming Home by Bryan Adams

I'm not the same guy I used to be, What can I do to make you believe, I'm coming home, Oh I’m coming home” seems to be the sentiment as Congress’s second-in-command returns from his leave of absence to party duties.

5. I Am Coming Home Again from Hat Trick

Mil gayee mujhko meree disha, badalee hai yu hawa”, I am coming home again” This song from the forgettable Bollywood film ‘Hat Trick’ is probably the song of hope on the lips of Congress party supporters.

6. Mama I'm Coming Home by Ozzy Osborne

Ozzy Osborne’s heartfelt ode to his mother resonates well with the Congress leaders’ current situation. “I can't stand to say goodbye. Mama, I'm coming home. I could be right, I could be wrong, Hurts so bad, it's been so long, Mama, I'm coming home.”

7. Gali main aaj chand nikla from Zakhm

“Tum Aaye To Aaya Mujhe Yaad, Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla, Jaane Kitne Dinoon Ke Baad, Gali Mein Aaj Chand Nikla” is possibly what Sonia Gandhi sang when she saw her beloved son after months right?

8. Coming Home of the Son and Brother by Robert Earl Keen

What did Rahul say to Priyanka when he told her he was returning? Possibly this song “Time for the singer boy to make his way home… A prodigal I've been distressed… I've been traveling states away… Now it's the coming home, Of the son and brother again.”

9. Coming home by P Diddy

“I'm coming home, I'm coming home, Tell the world that I'm coming, I'm back where I belong” This one is dedicated to the extensive news cameras outside Gandhi’s house who seem to take the “Tell the world that I'm coming” very seriously.

10. The Ruler's Back by Slick Rick

So if Rahul’s aim for taking a sabbatical was to get his thoughts together to lead the party better, this should be the theme song of his return! “The Ruler's back and he's here to assist. So off we go, let the trumpets blow, And hold on because the driver of the mission is a pro, The Ruler's back
