Although Tamil Nadu Congress President EVKS Elangovan had earlier refused to withdraw his remarks against Chidambaram and his son, it seems he may have to apologise soon. The TNCC Chief had said that the Tamil Nadu Congress would certainly attain salvation if one more person quit along with his heir, in the wake of former Union Minister Jayanthi Natarajan quitting the party. This was interpreted as a snide attack on Chidambaram and his son Karti. [caption id=“attachment_1075755” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] TKS Elangovan. AFP[/caption] According to reports, upset by Elangovan’s remarks that former Union minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti should quit Congress, the party leadership has summoned him to New Delhi. The party is also likely to take action against him. A Times of India report noted that Elangovan was called to Delhi, after Chidambaram complained to Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi about the ‘derogatory’ remark. Within 24 hours of Chidambaram meeting Rahul, Elangovan took an early morning flight to Delhi. Only a day back, the TNCC President was unfazed over reports that the Congress high command had reprimanded him over his reported attack on P Chidambaram. “Why should I take back my statement. I have not mentioned anybody in particular. I do not know why Chidambaram got provoked because of this,” he was quoted by PTI as saying. Elangovan, in fact, denied he was summoned by the high command over these reports and instead said he had been called for electioneering in Delhi polls in areas, where Tamils live in large numbers. Elangovan said two days ago Congress President Sonia Gandhi had called him on the telephone and sought his explanation on the remarks. He told her that he had not named anybody, while stressing that he was not against any individual in the party. Asked about Karti’s reply to his showcause notice, Elangovan said that he had forwarded it to the party high command. “I am not a position to say anything. I have just forwarded his reply to the high command,” he said.
