Statistics show enrolment in English-medium schools has doubled in 5 years

Even as the BJP-led Indian government is pushing for the usage of Hindi in education and as well as in government offices, new statistics point out that parents in the country would rather have their children study in English-medium schools. According to a report in  The Times of India, between 2008-09 and 2013-14,  enrolment in English-medium schools has almost doubled. Reuters[/caption] And what comes as a surprise is that the highest increase of enrolments in English-medium schools took place in largely Hindi-speaking states. According to the report, enrolment in English-medium schools was the highest in Bihar, with an increase of 4,700 percent. However, that is not to say that Hindi-medium schools did not see an increase in enrolments during the same time frame.
