Stalin rubbishes reports, says he's not quitting as DMK's treasurer

Chennai: DMK leader MK Stalin today rubbished the reports that he has offered to quit as party’s treasurer after not being allowed to contest for the post of General Secretary and said he only aspired to retain the post. “I condemn this strongly and deny such reports completely. Somebody has spread such rumours with malicious intent,” he told reporters. “I would like to state categorically that this has been done deliberately to create confusion among party ranks,” he added. He was referring to reports that he had offered to quit as DMK treasurer as his father and party chief M Karunanidhi did not allow him to contest for the post of General Secretary. Since then, Stalin’s supporters have been seeking a larger role for him in party affairs. DMK is in the last phase of concluding its organisational polls. Elections for the top posts of party president, General Secretary, treasurer and audit members will be held on 9 January. Stalin said that nomination papers for contesting the post of party treasurer will be filed on 7 January. “The truth is that our leader Karunanidhi and K Anbazhagan (former Finance Minister) will file papers for the posts of party president and General Secretary,” he said.
