JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav has been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the last few days, after making an utterly uncalled for remark about south Indian women that has caused a huge uproar cutting across political parties.
Yadav had said in the Rajya Sabha, “The body of women from south is as good as beautiful they are. They (women) in our region are not that good as those (in south) know dancing.” Yadav had also said that Leslee Udwin had only got permission to visit Tihar jail and interview the 16 December gangrape convict Mukesh Singh, because she was fair skinned.
And in the face of backlash the leader has remained defiant, insisting in parliament today, that he had said nothing wrong, and that he had actually raised an important issue, even as he came under attack by various leaders in the Rajya Sabha, who sought to condemn his behaviour.
“What have I said … ‘saanvli’ (dark complexioned) women are more in number in India, they are more in number the world over. I am ready to debate with anyone on the struggle of (Ram Manohar) Lohia and others for them,” Yadav said on Monday.
And as sorry seems to be the hardest word for the MP to say, here at Firstpost we came up with a list of songs perfect for the situation Yadav has landed himself in.
Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word by Elton John: As the lyrics of the song go, Yadav is indeed in a sad situation. And Yadav should be singing, “It’s sad, so sad/ It’s a sad, sad situation/ And it’s getting more and more absurd/ It’s sad, so sad / Why can’t we talk it over/ Oh it seems to me/That sorry seems to be the hardest word." Might we add here that, we feel that ‘absurd’ is the best word to describe the MPs behaviour.
Sorry, Blame it on Me by Akon: No, Yadav hasn’t and won’t apologise for a comment that was extremely demeaning and hence he should take a leaf out of Akon’s book of lyrics and sing, “If I can’t apologize for being wrong/ Then it’s just a shame on me/ I’ll be the reason for your pain/ And you can put the blame on me.”
Hard to Say I’m Sorry by Chicago: Apologizing is indeed a difficult thing to do, but it is also very important if one is a public figure. Hopefully Yadav will be inspired this song and take some time out for retrospection on the implications of what he said. Till then he can sing to angry Rajya Sabha MPs, “And after all that we’ve been through/ I will make it up to you/ I promise you.”
It’s Too Late to Apoligize by Timbaland (feat. One Republic): Calling south Indian women dark is not just insulting to women from south India, but the whole country. And given he represents people of the country, including women, in the Rajya Sabha Yadav should change his mind and sing this to every woman of the nation, “Didn’t think I’d turn around, and say/ That it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late/ I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late.”
