Congress president Sonia Gandhi today took on the ruling Akali Dal-BJP coalition in Punjab at a public rally in Kapurthala calling the Badals a self-beneficial political family and caring for its near and dear ones. “There is no place for the poor in their politics. This is not a fight for power but for humanity,” Gandhi said.[caption id=“attachment_187769” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“War cry from the Congress chief in Punjab. There is huge scam going in the public distribution system of the state.” Terming the incumbent government as anti-poor, the UPA chairperson asked, “What happened to the Central funds? Why has the number of BPL families increased in the last five years?” Gandhi also alleged that the present Punjab government has no concern for farmers.
The Congress is trying to retain power in the state that it had lost in the last Assembly polls.
