Reuters[/caption] Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, party President Rajnath Singh said it was a political conspiracy. “The charge sheet is a well-planned conspiracy by the UPA government and we will fight this politically,” he said. Also present at the conference to back Kataria were senior party leader Arun Jaitley and Rajasthan party chief Vasunsdhara Raje. The BJP said that the CBI had claimed that the conspiracy in the fake encounter case could stretch up to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s office. The party claimed that Kataria’s name being dragged into the case was part of the conspiract to tarnish Modi’s reputation. “We have no hope that the CBI and its officials will make an unbiased investigation,” Jaitley said. He pointed to the fact that former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah had also been charged in the case but then it was proved during his bail plea that there was no evidence against him. Raje said the entire party will stand by Kataria in the investigation. “The entire party leadership will stand by Kataria…we believed his is completely innocent and these charges are completely motivated,” she said. Jaitley hit out at the recently constituted GoM to grant autonomy to the CBI calling it a mere eyewash. “The CBI has no integrity, their true face has been shown before the Supreme Court,” he said. The party also targeted the CBI for failing to question or prove allegations of corruption against former Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal. “It’s interesting that without interrogating former railway minister Pawan Bansal, the CBI has said there is no strong evidence against him. How could they not find evidence?” Jaitley said.
