Jammu: Six civilians were injured on Monday due to indiscriminate shelling by Pakistan Rangers on the international border in Samba and Kathua districts of Jammu region, police said. “Pakistan Rangers used 81 mm and 82 mm mortars to target over two dozen villages and nearly 30 border outposts of the BSF (Border Security Force) during the night,” a senior police officer said in Jammu. Six villagers belonging to four families were injured due to Pakistan shelling in Bobiya village of Kathua district. They were immediately shifted to hospital by police in bullet proof vehicles,” the officer said. Extensive damage has been caused to civilian property in Pakistan shelling, the office added. A mini bus belonging to Pardeep Singh was damaged in Bobiya village while another villager Daljit Singh lost his cow and a buffalo calf. “Pakistan shelling has affected almost entire international border from Arnia sub-sector in Jammu district, entire Samba district and parts of Kathua district causing damage to houses, roads and agricultural fields,” the police officer said. The officer also said that BSF has been appropriately and effectively retaliating Pakistani shelling and firing. Due to fear and panic, villagers started migrating from many villages on the international border since Sunday evening. The administration has set up makeshift camps in school buildings for these people away from the international border. IANS
