 "Russian FM: Syrian opposition warms up to talks")
Moscow: Russia’s foreign minister says the main Syrian opposition has agreed to take part in talks in Moscow. Sergey Lavrov told Tuesday’s briefing that the Syrian National Coalition will attend the talks with other Syrian opposition groups. The coalition is Syria’s main Western-backed opposition group. He added that the coalition chief, Ahmad al-Jarba, said he couldn’t visit Moscow himself at the time when the talks are planned, but remains open for future contacts. Russia has proposed to host the talks as part of diplomatic efforts to help convene a Syrian peace conference in Geneva. Lavrov said that the National Coalition’s acceptance of the offer is a positive step that signals that the opposition is getting “more realistic.” AP
