Rohini Nilekani is busy taking morning walks in parks around Bangalore’s South constituency as well as doing padyatras in the afternoons in order to campaign for her husband Nandan Nilekani, founder of Infosys and now a political candidate. “It was a very difficult decision because obviously it is a game changer for the city and the country, but it is very hard at a personal level. But the right thing to do is to support him. And then I didn’t look back,” Rohini told CNN IBN. [caption id=“attachment_1456505” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Rohini Nilekani[/caption] Nilekani, Congress candidate from Bangalore south for the April 17 Lok Sabha polls, is locked in a tough battle against five-time MP BJP’s Ananth Kumar. According to a CNN IBN report, such campaigning is necessary if Rohini needs to keep up with five-term MP’s wife Tejaswani, who has herself been campaigning for her husband since 1998. The Bangalore South Constituency is an interesting one as it not only hosts the richest candidate in India— Nandan Nilekani and his wife recently declared assets worth Rs 770 crore— but it also has the sitting Member of Parliament who claims to be poorer than his wife. Majority of Nilekani’s assets are in the form Infosys shares. He still holds 1.45% shares in Infosys, while his wife has 1.3% shares in the same company. On the other hand, as per the affidavit of five-time MP BJP candidate Ananth kumar, his wife is almost eight times richer than himself! While Anant Kumar has assets worth Rs 51.13 lakh, his wife has about Rs 4.2 crore in her name. Tejaswini Ananth Kumar runs a charitable trust that supplies mid-day meals to thousands of schools. An engineer by training, she was once part of the prestigious light combat aircraft or LCA project, but family priorities took over. According to Google search trends, Nilekani is more searched on Google than Karnataka’s political veterans such as Siddaramaiah, BS Yeddyurappa and HD Deve Gowda.interestingly, V Balakrishnan the ex-CFO of Infosys, who is now an AAP candidate, has also not been able to garner the same interest as his former colleague. “As we move closer towards the 2014 Elections for the 16th Lok Sabha, Google search trends for political leaders in Karnataka over the last 90 days reveals that people from the state are following national political developments more keenly than local events,” Google said in a release issued earlier this week.
