If there is one thing we have learnt from countless rain sequences in popular culture it is this - pouring showers make everything dramatic. So when the clouds decided to open up during Congress Vice President’s rally in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, it made for quite a dramatic sight. Rahul, however, continued his address and didn’t let anything rain on his parade, pun intended. Clad in his trademark white kurta, he even refused an umbrella and was completely drenched by the end of his speech. Rahul spoke about the contributions of late Congress leader K Kamaraj and even as the downpour intensified and state unit Congress chief EVKS Elangovan interrupted asking the cheerful crowd whether it would brave the rain, the gathering responded with a roaring ‘yes’. Check out this vine about how Rahul shooed away the umbrella and wiped the water off his hair and face, smiling in true Bollywoodesque hero style, in keeping with his name! (Rahul, naam toh suna hoga!)

This video got us thinking about how Rahul Gandhi’s rain-drenched rant reminded us of classic the monsoon numbers we have grown up watching on screen. The similarities were there to be seen- the traditional white apparel, the bright smile, the roaring crowd, the waving. Don’t believe us? Have a look at the photographs! How many of us dread being caught in the rain when wearing white? Well Rahul clearly didn’t mind even as he stood soaking in the rain. This image brings back all the rain sequences in Bollywood where the protagonist are always caught in a thunderstorm or a ruthless shower in sheer, white, body-clinging clothes. IBNLive[/caption] There are very few people who can look so delighted after being drenched while going about their daily business. Rahul Gandhi seems to be one among them, as he is seen grinning and waving after his speech.Come rain or shine, naa Chhodenge Kabhi Saath Apka ? [caption id=“attachment_2360810” align=“aligncenter” width=“825”] No rain, no gain. PTI[/caption] This photograph is proof that rain can ruin any hairstyle- just look at Rahul Gandhi’s usually neatly-combed hair plastered to his scalp. However, he still manages to look pleased with his situation with that mysterious smile that we rarely get to see during rallies. Na aandhi se darenge na tufaan se darenge hum? [caption id=“attachment_2360830” align=“aligncenter” width=“825”] Rain can ruin any hairstyle. PTI[/caption] Just how good was Rahul Gandhi’s speech? Judging from the crowd’s willingness to brave the rain, maybe it wasn’t so ineffective Give me some sunshine Give me some rain Give me another chance I want grow up again?
