S Doraiswamy, defence counsel for Nalini, prime accused in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has after years of cross-examinations and research, penned his yet-to-be-published book, Mysteries and Secrets Behind the Rajiv Gandhi Murder. Twenty years after one of India’s youngest prime ministers was killed in a suicide bomb attack by the LTTE, Doraiswamy has claimed Gandhi’s assassination was an “inside job”, with top Congress cardres and the SIT complicit in his murder. interview with the Tehelka magazine
, the lawyer who was known to be close to LTTE chief Prabhakaran, lays down the extensive string of evidence to establish his case. He says, that Gandhi, who was killed on 21 May 1991 at Sriperumbudur, was through with his tour of Tamil Nadu on the 18th. But the All India Congress Committee extended his tour, an inside decision taken at New Delhi which a Tamil daily was privy to on 17th itself, when “None of the Congress leaders were aware about such a meeting.” Further the venue at which Gandhi was to campaign for local candidate Maragatham Chandrasekar, was shifted without intimating the police, Doraiswamy has claimed. He also says that the SIT, which was hand-in-glove with the AICC, ignored crucial evidence and points to the gaps in the SIT investigation. Read detailed claims made in the interview at the
